Benefits of Fresh Air & Spending Some Time Outdoors

    1. The best things in life are free and it is true!

Many of us hear this time and time again, yet we seem to forget it during our busy day to day life.

Working from home and having to manage the house, there is sometimes a lapse of 3 to 5 days before I realise that I had not been outdoors at all! Though I know about all of the benefits to getting plenty of fresh air, I get so caught up in various things for work and the time goes by.

I am consciously trying to remind myself every so often why I should make it a part of my wellbeing routine, to just get out the door and breathe in the beautiful air that this time of the year has to offer.

Here are a few pointers to remind ourselves of the wholesome benefit of forests and the fresh outdoor air that awaits us.

      1. The sense of freedom when you get out the house and you are not confined within the walls of your home, which is healthy both for your mental wellbeing, as well as for your eyes, to visually take in wide expanse of the outdoor and of greens and foliage.
      2. Great source of vitamin D especially if you venture out during a sunny day which helps to strengthen our bones. Even nipping out for just a couple of minutes will help to increase your Vitamin D level.
      3. Stretching opportunity, to help ease muscle aches and cramps while improving our moods giving us a higher sense of vitality.
      4. Our brain sensory gets stimulated when we are outdoor, especially when we are in the forest as we spot each and every movement that triggers the curiosity in us or simply watch the wind rustling the tree tops while absorbing the sound of nature surrounding us.
      5. Breathing in fresh air helps clear our lungs, exert and expand as we walk either briskly or leisurely. It also provides a higher level of oxygen that helps dilate our blood vessels and clean up our lungs.
      6. Walking outdoors and breathing in fresh air helps lower our blood pressure and heart rate.
      7. With the rich oxygen outdoors, it helps to improve our digestion as well as the fresh air other than supply our cells with oxygen, it also communicates to our body that it is alright to digest and supply our stomach and intestines with the vital blood flow that helps with weight loss too.
      8. Being outdoors helps to give us more mental focus and energised with the higher oxygen level that circulates in our brain that promotes the production of serotonin which contributes to our sense of inner joy.
      9. Benefits of the outdoor fresh air also includes boosting and strengthening of our immune system with the increase of oxygen level, our white blood cells are able to function better to fight and eliminate bacteria and germs which helps us to heal faster as well.
      10. Being outdoors also helps us to counter attention fatigue and give our brain a chance to have an environmental shift or as an opportunity to give it a break or rest from the computer or TV screen. Your mind will become sharper after a stint outdoor and you will feel refreshed physically and mentally recharged to be more creative in what you do.

Whatever the time of the year, it is always good to find opportunities to venture out and enjoy a walk while breathing in the fresh air, to just relax and give your sensory and brain a break to improve your general wellbeing.

Remember your body and mind are your responsibility and just like anything else, they need to be cared for it them to function well.
